Robert ap Huw's Harp Technique

This is an article based on a paper I presented at the 1995 symposium on Robert ap Huw, sponsored by the Centre for Advanced Welsh Music Studies.  It was published in Welsh Music History 3 by the University of Wales Press in 1999, which is currently out of print, but is now available through Welsh Journals Online.  

Whilst I still stand by many of the ideas I presented then, some of the details have changed.  Amongst them is my notation for explaining the interpretation in Figure 2 of the patterns, or gestures, found on page 35 of the manuscript.  A free downloadable PDF of my current interpretation is available from the website of the Wire Branch of the Clarsach Society.
