Early Scottish Airs contains pieces from 17th-century Scottish lute manuscripts, along with tunes and airs from other 18th-century collections. They are intimate pieces, music enjoyed in the households of wealthy landowners, set out here for a range from G below Middle C up to treble D. Heartstone is a collection of compositions by Highland composer Hilary de Vries, arranged and notated by Bill Taylor. The tunes are playable on a small wire-strung clarsach with 19 strings, having a range from G below Middle C up to treble D. The music is suitable for various levels of ability, from new player to intermediate. The book includes background notes on the inspiration and ideas behind the music, playing techniques and notation guide, and MP3 study recordings by Bill Taylor.
